Usages

Medicinal- In India, the extract of leaves is applied to injuries. It has also been used in folk medicine to treat diseases such as fever, inflammation, and lung injury. Fodder- It is used as animal food.

Habitat

Thrives in open, wet places along streams, in forest and in thickets, from sea level to an elevation of 1800 m.

Plant Description

It is an erect smooth or hairy annual slender or rather stout herb.

Stem is single, possibly with some branching.

Leaves are thin, opposite (upper ones alternate), oblong to broadly ovate, and 5-15 cm long, with the apex pointed and the margins entire or scalloped.

Flowers are small, white with a loose cluster arrangement (inflorescence). Corolla (petals) have hairy edges near the opening.

Fruit is single-seeded (achene) with a wrinkled or rough surface, topped with a glandular ring bearing 3-5 short, club-shaped lobes.
