Plant Description

Perennial herb.

Stem is round in cross-section, branched.

Leaves are about 10 x 2.5 cm, lanceshaped, narrowed at both ends, often wavy. Leaf-stalk is 3-6 mm Capsule is 15 cm by 6 mm.

Flowers are red, or orange-red, 3.2-7.3 cm long, lobes orange or red with brown or black markings in a central line, mouth somewhat contracted. Calyx is herbaceous, sepals variable, sometimes very short blunt, sometimes lanceshaped pointed as long as the tube. Flower-stalks are 0.3-1.2 cm long, at branch-ends; more rarely on spurs, in leaf-axils.
