Thrives in cool mountain climates, at an elevation of 1500-4500 m.

It is small herbaceous perennial with a woody base.
Stem is erect or prostrate, 15-40 cm long, typically branched. Covered in dense white woolly hairs.
Leaves are usually numerous, more often crowded at base, narrowly linear or oblong, eared at base, pointed. They are densely woolly on the lower surface, less on the upper side, margins often curled, 1-3 cm long.
Flowers are nearly spherical, arranged in rounded, densely crowded corymbs. Tiny yellow florets are surrounded by shiny white bracts.
Fruit is small achene (single-seeded fruit) with a pappus (hair-like structure) that aids wind dispersal.
Flowering: June-October.
