Plant Description

It is terrestrial growing in low mats or rosettes on moist soil or rock.

True stem is lacking. It has a flattened, ribbon-like structure called a thallus that lies flat against the ground.

Leaves are modidfied structures called hornwort lobes emerge from the upper surface of the thallus. These lobes are lobed or finger-like in shape.

Flowers are absent, reproduces through spores.
