It is upright clump-forming fern reaching 20-45 cm tall. Produces narrowly triangular fronds with asymmetrical rhomboid-shaped leaflets.
Stem is short and erect, with dark to reddish-brown scales at the tip, typically less than 5 cm long.
Leaves are narrowly triangular and reaching 12-30 cm long. Pinnately compound, meaning the main rachis has leaflets (pinnae) arranged on either side. Fronds have 8-20 pairs of leaflets, with asymmetrical rhomboid to trapezoid shapes. Green to straw-colored when dry, with a slightly leathery texture.
Flowers are small, linear clusters appearing on the underside of leaflets near the midrib.
