Plant Description

It is a small free-floating aquatic fern.

It forms dense mats on the surface water bodies. The plant is characterized by its small, feathery leaves, typically 1-2 cm in diameter.

It formed a symbiotic relationship with a nitrogen-fixing cyanobacterium, which gives it a distinctive green or reddish hue.
