Usages

Ornamental - Often grown as an ornamental hedge. Medicine - In Thailand as a traditional herbal remedy. It allegedly acts as a tonic, diuretic and blood purifier.

Habitat

Thrives in roadsides, slopes, along streams, in xeric vegetation, at an elevation below 100-2600 m.

Plant Description

It is subshrub or shrub growing 60-100 cm tall.

Stem is erect, woody, branched, covered with soft trichomes.

Leaves are dark green on the upper surface and pale green on the lower surface. They are elliptic to narrowly ovate, about 10 cm long.

Flowers are about 5 cm long, funnel-shaped in violet or pink color.

Fruit is ellipsoid capsule, about 1.5 cm long, hairless and glossy when ripe.
