Usages

Ornamental - A common plant of meadows, lawns and other grassy areas, it is very frequently found growing in lawns. Medicine - Daisies are a popular domestic remedy with a wide range of applications. They are a traditional wound herb. The herb is mildly anodyne, antispasmodic, antitussive, demulcent, digestive, emollient, expectorant, laxative, ophthalmic, purgative and tonic.

Plant Description

It is herbaceous perennial with a low-growing spreading form. Grows close to the ground with short creeping rhizomes (underground stems).

Stem is leafless emerge from the base of the plant, supporting the flower heads, 2-10 cm tall, rarely reaching 15 cm.

Leaves are evergreen, small, and rounded or spoon-shaped (spathulate), 2-5 cm long, form a basal rosette around the base of the stems.

Flowers are borne singly on the leafless stems, 2-3 cm in diameter. Ray florets: White, with occasional red tips. Disc florets: Yellow in the center of the flower head.

Fruit is small achene (single-seeded fruit) after flowering.
