Ornamental- This orchid family has ornamental value. Medicine- local uses include aphrodisiacs, ener-gizers, and treatments of skin burns, fractured or dis-located bones, headaches, fever, and wounds. Other usesinclude insect repellent, blood purifier, skin fungi, snakeand scorpion bite antidote, inducement of abortions,and recovery from childbirth.

Thrives in warm, humid forests as an epiphyte on trees.

It is epiphytic orchid small to medium-sized.
Stem is short, with pseudobulbs. Pseudobulbs ovoid, 1-2 cm long.
Leaves are single, leathery from each pseudobulb, oblong to elliptic, 5-15 cm long, 2-5 cm wide.
Flowers are inverted or upside-down, solitary or in small clusters, brownish-purple with darker veins. Flower size about 2-3 cm across.
Fruit is capsule, containing numerous tiny seeds.
