Plant Description

It is an aromatic herbaceous perennial, growing to 80 cm tall.

It has sparsely branched lax or erect stems.

The leaves are oblong-lanceolate, 5–17 cm long, hairy on both sides, and with margins entire or occasionally waved or weakly toothed.

It blooms in bright yellow or orange heads (4-7 cm) with two layers of petals (ray and disc floret). Outer petals are flat and infertile, while the inner ones are tubular and fertile. Both types come in shades of yellow and orange, with the inner florets often a richer color.

The fruit is a thorny curved achene.
