Usages

Ornamental - It is planted in garden as a flowering shrub and hedge. Food - Fruit can be used to make jams and jellies. Medicine- The fruit is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antispasmodic, astringent, digestive and hypoglycaemic.

Plant Description

Perennial deciduous shrub 1m tall.

Woody, thorny, and branched.

Deciduous, simple, ovate to elliptic, with serrated margins.

Showy, five-petaled, often orange-red, appearing before leaves.

Pome-like, hard and fleshy, containing numerous seeds.
