More Info

One of the few fuchsia species that can withstand colder climates. Its tubular flowers are known to attract hummingbirds.

Plant Description

It is an evergreen shrub, 0.5-3 meters tall, bushy or cascading.

Stems are woody at the base, becoming more slender and green towards the tips. The branching pattern is irregular, with branches spreading outwards.

Leaves are oppositely arranged, elliptical to ovate, and glossy green with entire margins. The upper surface is darker green than the lighter green or slightly reddish underside. Leaves are typically 2-5 cm long.

Flowers are pendent (drooping downwards) and showy. They have four sepals that are often brightly colored (red, pink, purple) and reflexed (curving backward). The corolla (petals) are fused at the base and come in various colors (white, pink, purple) with a tubular shape.

Fruit is a small, fleshy berry that develops from pollinated flowers. It's roughly 1-2 cm long, oval-shaped, and turns from green to purple or black when mature.
