Medicine- The leaves are used as a topical medicine for the treatment of arthritis and for treating fractures and dislocations. Wood - Construction: The wood is used for furniture, planks and tool handles. Industrial- The seed core contains 30% oil and is used for industrial oil.

Thrives in thickets or sparse forests on sunny slopes; below 1500 m, but mostly found on hills at low elevations.
It is small tree reaching a height of up to 18 m with a trunk diameter of about 0.6 m.
Stem is straight or bent. Its outer bark is dark grey and has long cracks running down it. Underneath the outer bark, the inner bark is brown with darker spots.
Leaves are elliptic shaped, arranged alternately on the stem, 4.5-17 cm in length and 2.5-10 cm in width. Upper surface is smooth while the lower surface is sparsely hairy. Leafstalk is approximately 1-2.5 cm long.
Flowers are small, yellow arranged in stalked umbels within short racemes. Each flower has 6 tepals and 9-12 stamens.
Fruit is oblong to ellipsoid shaped, measuring 0.7-1.2 cm long. It is seated on a small, flat perianth cup.
