Usages

Medicine - It is used medicinally for dysentery and snake bites, also used as an essence in hair oil. It is used as a substitute for Lemon Balm.

Thrives in the hills and valleys in the Himalayas, at an elevation of 600-2800 m.

Plant Description

It is erect branched herb growing to a height of 60-100 cm.

Stem is velvet-hairy.

Leaves are ovate, 1.2-6 cm long and 0.9-3 cm wide, with a purplish midrib and sparsely hairy to nearly hairless surface. Leaves have a rounded or heart-shaped base and a serrated margin. Leafstalks measure 0.2-2.5 cm.

Flowers are small, white or reddish arranged in widely spaced whorls. They are about 1 cm long, with a slightly protruding tube.

Fruit is small, dry containing seeds.


Phenology

Flowering: June-November.
