Usages

Food - Edible fruit with a sweet and tart taste also made into tea, jam or dried fruit. Medicine- The leaves has antibacterial and astringent properties and area used in the treatment of colds, influenza, and nosebleeds. The root bark is used in the treatment of asthma, coughs, and bronchitis. Wood - Construction: The wood is used for construction, boat building, furniture, agricultural implements, flooring, bridge building, and cabinet work. Eco-restoration- It is used for erosion control and in reforestation projects, grown as shelterbelt.

Plant Description

Perennial tree

Erect, with a spreading crown. Bark is dark greyish-brown and vertically fissured.

Alternate, simple, ovate to heart-shaped, with serrated margins.

Small, greenish, borne in catkins, with separate male and female trees.

White or pinkish, multiple drupe, sweet, and edible.
