Plant Description

It is short-lived perennial often grown as an annual. Forms a rosette of leaves with flowering stems rising from the center.

Stem is erect, single flowering stems emerging from the leaf rosette. Can reach 30-60 cmtall, covered in fine hairs.

Leaves are rounded, lobed or deeply divided with scalloped edges. Green with silvery-white hairs, giving a dusty appearance. Leaves grow in a basal rosette at the base of the stem.

Flowers are Daisy-like flower heads in clusters at the top of the flowering stems. Colors: Various shades of purple, pink, blue, and red (depending on variety), 2-5 cm in diameter. Single or double florets available.

Fruit is dry, achene (single-seeded fruit) with a pappus (hair-like structure) for wind dispersal. Achene are brown and less than 1 cm long.
