Plant Description

annual herb reaching 20-70 cm. 2-0.7 meters) tall with a tendency to sprawl and lean on other plants for support.

Erect, slender, and smooth with slightly swollen nodes at the base of leaves.

Arranged alternately along the stem. narrowly ovate or lanceolate in shape with entire margins fringed by very short hairs. Leaves taper to a blunt apex and are nearly stalkless. Size: 2-8 cm long and 0.5-2.0 cm wide.

Tiny, pink or white with 4-5 tepals,sepals and petals not differentiated) fused near the base. Each flower is replaced by a single, dull-looking, three-angled fruit (achene).

Achenes are black or dark brown. ellipsoid in shape, and about 3 mm long.
