Usages

Medicine - It is used for treatment of a number of ailments such as constipation, cold, bacterial infections, biliary fever, sceptic wounds and insect bites. It has also been used to provide synptomatic relief in some of the allergic and inflammatory conditions.

Thrives in forests, thickets, wet forest edges, weedy places, and meadows, at an elevation of 2200-4300 m.

Plant Description

It is perennial herb growing 20-50 cm tall.

Stem is solitary (single), with angled sides and smooth, hairless surface.

Leaves are rounded in outline, 10-25 cm long, deeply cut into 3 ovate, toothed lobes, sometimes further lobed.

Flowers are 2-4 cm across, with 3 sepals which fall off soon. The flower has six petals and six stamens, which inspired its species name hexandrum, meaning six stamens.

Fruit is red berries with an ovoid-globose shape, measuring 4-7 cm long and 2.5-4 cm wide. They are fleshy and contain seeds. Seeds: Maroon colored, ovoid-triangular in shape.
