Thrives in temperate climates at mid-high altitudes in well-drained soil with some moisture and tolerates partial shade, at an elevation of 1400-2500 m.

It is herbaceous perennial with a clumping growth pattern. Forms a cluster of upright arching leaves emerging from a short underground rhizome.
Stem is short and inconspicuous, usually hidden beneath the soil surface. Functions as a storage organ for nutrients and water. Sends up shoots that form the leafy clumps above ground.
Leaves are linear and strap-shaped, ranging from 30-80 cm in length, can be green or variegated with cream or yellow stripes, adding visual interest. Smooth and hairless with a soft texture.
Flowers are in loose clusters (panicles) on tall, slender stalks emerging from the base. Individual flowers are small and white, often overlooked due to their delicate size.
Fruit is obovoid-shaped capsule, rarely round.
