Usages

Ornamental - Food- Young shoots, harvested in spring, are eaten as a vegetable with rice in Indonesia as a lablab (a vegetable salad that is served with sambal). Essential oils/Cosmetics - An essential oil is obtained from the flowers. It is used in perfumery etc. An extract of the plant is used as an ingredient in commercial cosmetic preparations as an emollient and perfume.

Plant Description

Evergreen shrub.

Woody, thorny, and upright.

Compound, with 5-7 leaflets. The leaflets are oval-shaped with serrated edges.

Large, double or semi-double, and typically white or pale pink. They have a strong, sweet fragrance.

Small, red hips (rose hips) that develop after the flowers fade.
