Plant Description

It is small clump-forming fern reaching 10-23 cm tall. Forms a cluster of triangular-ovate fronds with finely divided leaflets.

Stem is short and erect, with dark brown to black scales at the tip. Provides minimal support for the fronds.

Leaves are triangular-ovate in shape and finely divided. Tripinnatifid to tripinnate, meaning the main rachis has leaflets (pinnae) further divided into smaller pinnules and segments. Fronds can reach 6-15 cm long and 2.5-7 cm wide. Green to grayish green in color with a thin, herbaceous texture when dry.

Flowers are small, oval-shaped clusters appearing on the underside of ultimate segments.
