Plant Description

It is large deciduous tree with a wide-spreading handsome crown. Reaches heights of 45 m.

Stem is 200 cm in diameter, wood is a fragrant red color.

Leaves are alternate, pinnate, composed of 5 to 17 leaflets. Leaflets are opposite or irregularly alternate, ovate-lanceolate, measuring 4-13 cm in length. They are green on both sides, but may appear paler beneath and are often red and downy when young.

Flowers are white and fragrant, arranged in large, pyramidal panicles at the ends of branchlets. Individual flowers are about 0.5 cm long.

Fruit is in the form of seeds and are dispersed by wind, winged at both ends, with unequal wings and a narrowly obtuse apex.
