Plant Description

It is an evergreen trailing vine spreading along the ground and rooting along the stems to form patches of ground cover 200-500 cm across and scrambling up to 50-70 cm high.

Stem is exhibiting two distinct growth forms: creeping/trailing and upright flowering. Both are hairless and filled with milky sap.

Leaves are oppositely arranged, 3-9 cm long and 2-6 cm broad, glossy dark green with a leathery texture and an entire but distinctly hairy margin, and a hairy petiole 1-2 cm long.

Flowers are produced from early spring to autumn, violet-purple, 3-5 cm diameter, with 5 petals.

Fruit is paired, elongated follicle (fruit capsule). This follicle can reach lengths of up to 3.5-5 cm. They are cylindrical or fusiform (tapering at both ends) in shape and turn from green to brown as they mature.
