Plant Description

It is large evergreen fern reaching 150 cm tall and 250 cm wide. Forms a clump of long arching fronds with a cascading or spreading growth pattern.

Stem is short and stout, often hidden beneath the base of the fronds. Can be creeping in some varieties, allowing the fern to gradually spread. Provides significant support for the large, arching fronds.

Leaves are elegantly arching and pinnately divided, resembling a chain of leaflets. Pinnately compound, meaning the main rachis has smaller pinnae arranged on either side. Red or reddish-brown, maturing to a beautiful green color with a papery texture.

Flowers are small and inconspicuous, clustered on the underside of fertile pinnules.
